Now my ideas where starting to come together I decided to begin looking into different Content Management Systems to make a decision on which CMS would be perfect for the 80 days website. There are many bolt on CMS systems out there, but because of my client needs I needed to discover the perfect CMS for him.
SPEAKING TO CLIENT ABOUT CMS
After speaking with the client he made it clear that he wanted a CMS that was extremely easy to use, one that would allow him to only make the most basic changes to the website. He explained what he wanted the functionality of the CMS to do, which where:
- Making Changes to Menu Page
- Changing Opening Times
- Some Imagery
- Functional from his tablet device
- Easy to use and understand
Now I had the brief I began looking into the different Bolt on CMS systems that achieve each of these things. I already knew of a few including, WordPress and COUCH CMS, but I had to find one that was affordable and easy to use for my client because he isn’t the most technical person.
After looking through a selection of different CMS Systems I came across a CMS called Cushy. Which fits the brief for what my client wants, Cushy is completely free and easy to use. The best thing about Cushy is that unlike most CMS Systems you have to implement the the files of the CMS into the file tree of your site.
HOW TO USE CUSHY
STEP 1 – ADDING A WEBSITE
Once you have created an account the first step is to assign the website you want to add the cushy CMS to by clicking the add site section on the control panel that is given to you after signing up.
STEP 2 – ASSIGN EDITABLE PAGES
Once you have added the website you want to edit, you must then go onto assigning the pages that will be editable within the website. By doing this, cushy CMS links directly to the page through the file path.
STEP 3 – ENTER IN CUSHY CMS CLASS INTO HTML
Now the editable pages are linked in you can assign each element such as text or a div a class of cushy like this class=”cushy” and then from the control panel on cushy the text or any other element you have assigned this class to in your HTML will be completely editable from the CUSHY control panel.
